When my husband and I began doing foster care, almost ten years ago, our goal was to help kids. We fostered a lot of teenage girls, but if you had asked us to adopt a teenager, we would have laughed.

But in 2008, Brittney came to live with us, after two years of foster care and a failed adoption.

The Vaughan’s - Ryan, Heather, Lila and Tony (the dog) - live in Olathe, Kansas. Ryan serves on KVC’s General Board. Ryan’s parents, Kathy and Steve are fellow Everyday Heroes.

"It is important to our family to help others by giving our time and resources. The Everyday Heroes program allows us to contribute to a local cause that directly impacts our community and the youth that will someday lead ours."

Everyday Heroes is a monthly giving program for supporters of KVC Health Systems, Inc.

KVC Psychiatric Hospitals and Residential Treatment Facilities serve more than 1,300 children each year.

Since July 2005, KVC has found adoptive Forever Families for more than 1,250 children and counting...

KVC ranks number one in two of the seven areas of measurement used nationally by states to measure outcomes of family services (KVC is in the top five in the other five areas).

KVC touches the lives of more than 25,000 children and families each day.

95 percent of KVC children who enter foster care and then return home will remain at home (National average is 67 percent).
